Hello Friends of Íbero!
We want to share with you what we were up to this last week. We went to a world famous museum, played some soccer, watched an Argentine movie and of course, practiced our Spanish skills!
On Monday, July 6th, we had our very own movie theater here in the school and watched a famous Argentine movie called, “El Hijo de la Novia.” In 2001, the movie was nominated for the “Best Foreign Film” at the Oscars. We usually watch the movie with English subtitles so we can hear the Spanish and read the Engish – it´s a fun way to learn!
On Tuesday we had what we call a “Taller de Conversación,” or in English, a conversation workship. This week we went to the famous Café La Paz on Avenida Corrientes. This famous café is where all the well known artists and intellectuals in the city hung out back in the 60´s and 70´s. It is definitely worth a visit if you are here in Buenos Aires.
On Wednesday we had the chance to go to one of the most important museums in Buenos Aires: MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires). In English, the Museum of Latin American Art – it was a wonderful experience. We also went to the National Museum of Beautiful Art. We had a guide through this one who knew everything about every piece – it was fantastic!
Thursday, July 9th was a national holiday in Argentina (Independence Day). Most schools, banks and government offices are closed out of respect, so Íbero did not have class. Instead we played soccer! Juan Ignacio, our events coordinator, rented a field and Íbero students came and played against one another. We had two teams for this particular game – The Brazilians versus The Rest of the World (kids from countries other than Brazil). Considering how popular the sport is here in Argentina, it was a great cultural experience as well as fun way to spend the holiday!
That´s all for this week! Look for us next week to see what´s going on.
Chau,
Elizabeth
