Suggestions for February 1-5

Hi Íbero students,

Here are our suggestions for the first week of February--a variety of things to keep you occupied while you're not in class!

Monday, February 1: We will be showing a movie in Íbero in the Cine room at 2 pm. “La Suerte Está Echada” (The Die Is Cast). Here’s the synopsis, according to Amazon.com:

Sebastian Borensztein's comedy The Die Is Cast stars Marcelo Mazzarello and Gaston Pauls as half-brothers. As the film opens each of them becomes unemployed. Believing he is the subject of a curse, the theatrical Felipe (Mazzarello) heads to his father's deathbed where he and his half brother decide to grant their father's wish. After dad asks to try cocaine, the men head out attempting to score the goods while overcoming the curse.

Tuesday, February 2: There will be the weekly asado (Argentine barbeque) at the Art Factory Hostel, located at Piedras 545. At 8:30 pm there will be grilled beef of all sorts, choripán (chorizo sandwiches), drinks and conversation with other visitors to Buenos Aires. A good chance to get to know other Íbero students outside the classroom! Bring AR $35 to cover the cost of your food and drinks, and don’t forget to RSVP with Callie in the Íbero office so we can give Art Factory a rough idea of how many people to expect.

Wednesday, February 3: We suggest a trip to Pizzeria Romario, in Recoleta (Vicente Lopez 2102. Romario’s serves wonderful pizza and baked empanadas, and for about 45 pesos or so, you can get dinner and drinks. Try to get the outdoor seating!

Thursday, February 4: Head to the Art Factory Hostel (Piedras 545) at 9 pm to see some local bands perform live. Don’t forget to mention that you’re an Íbero student. See you there!

Friday, February 5: We recommend ending the school week with dinner and a tango show at “La Casa de Anibal Troilo.” Offers a wide variety of Argentine dishes, wine, and a tango show featuring dancers, musicians and singers.

Address: Carlos Calvo 2540. Show begins at 10 pm.

Saturday, February 6: Head to the Feria de los Mataderos, a weekly fair offering food, crafts (including artisanal leather and silver products), folkloric music, dancing and gauchos (cowboys). This fair focuses more on the other provinces of Argentina (not just Buenos Aires), so it’s well worth the trip.
